Springbox
Noah Levin / January 15th, 2010So after my first blog post about the process of my band choosing its name, a guest commented that it had already been taken by a relatively popular Indie band from Nebraska. While I’m certainly glad that the web served its purpose for information sharing, I took no pride in being the bearer of bad news at a rehearsal last month. Naturally, we dedicated the next several rehearsals to revisit our massive list of potential names. Nothing came of it. Two months went by and still nothing. Similar to how movies these days seem to be repeating themselves, resorting to sequels, comic books, and novels for scripts because so much has been done already, we were starting to think every reasonable band name was already taken. Thus, we continued to perform under the name, The Mercy Rule, even though it had the pressing shadow of another band lurking behind us.
We had just about given up on agreeing on a name when out of nowhere our guitarist, Nathan, saw the movie, Invictus, about a rugby team, The Springbocks (named after South African Gazelles). POOF! Some minor changes and we agreed on Springbox as our new name. I’m not sure if we just decided to just give up and agree or if it really just felt right, but somehow it clicked and we moved ahead at light speed.
We’re recording an EP in the next few weeks, so stay tuned and hopefully you’ll enjoy it. In the mean time check out the three songs we’ve put up on our myspace.
