Personas
We developed detailed personas to represent the average users (1 student and 1 teacher) that would be using our application. Meet Andy and Mrs. Pollack:
Student Persona
Name: Andy Patterson
Age: 16
Occupation: Private High School Student
Location: Pittsburgh
Technology:
- High level of usage and understanding, checks email multiple times a day
- Surfs the web and talks on AIM every night while doing homework
- Constantly text messages to friends
Characteristics:
- Outgoing personality outside of class
- Often very busy with extracurricular activities
Motivation:
- Sometimes falls behind in his work due to his busy schedule
- Often he wishes he could talk to his teachers about assignments one-on-one
- Does not know how to go about asking teachers when they are free, especially because his busy schedule is not very accommodating
Experience Goals: Doesn't want to be scared to approach his teacher
Teacher Persona
Name: Mrs. Pollack
Age: 50
Occupation: Private High School Math Teacher
Location: Pittsburgh
Technology:
- Can use basic functions like email and word documents
- Gets frustrated with new applications
- Can handle an iPhone, but has trouble reading smaller texts on some mobile phones
Characteristics:
- Very open to meeting one-on-one with students
- Often sacrifices personal time to help her students
- Develops close relationships with students
Motivation:
- Tends to give a lot of homework
- Believes that if the student works hard enough and completes the homework, then they deserve a good grade (less emphasis on tests)
- Students often have to meet with her for extra help
Experience Goals: Doesn't want to spend hours of time comparing all her student's schedules to her own in order to find overlapping times that are free
End Goals: Wants to be able to work around her student's schedules to set up appointments with individual students or groups
